Bury's fear of heights struck again as they lost at Wimbledon to slip off the League Two summit.
The Shakers won last week to go top for the second time in three weeks but again they lost their next game to fall to third.
Adebayo Akinenwa scored twice in 11 minutes for the hosts, the first a 26th-minute volley and the second a header from Sean Rigg's cross.
Danny Mayor pulled one back with a fierce strike in the 49th minute, only for Matt Tubbs to poke home Wimbledon's third moments later from a corner.
Ryan Lowe then converted a 73rd-minute penalty after Chris Hussey had been fouled.
But, despite a nervy finish for the Dons, Bury were unable to avoid their third defeat of the season.
'We didn't come to sit back, we came to attack and try to win,' said Shakers' boss David Flitcroft.
'We just needed a bit more clinical finishing and we could have been a couple goals up ourselves.
'The goals we conceded were poor. To give Akinfenwa so much room in the box is disappointing but going forward we're a menace.
'We've not done our job properly but we will be back on it in training ahead of the game next week.
'What this group of players has been able to do is bounce back from disappointment and really drive forward.'
