Australian Open champion Na Li's Coach Carlos Rodriquez has said that his charge has the game to win Wimbledon as he feels that the Chinese star's best surface is grass.
World No.3 Na Li 's mentor Carlos Rodriguez has put his faith behind her student's abilities to win the one tournament every tennis player wants to win in his or her career - Wimbledon. The Argentine has declared that the 31 year old's best surface is grass as she is a fluent mover, has solid ground-strokes, delicate and crisp volleys and moves her opponents around quite beautifully.
On being asked about Li's best surface, Rodriguez said: 'I'm going to surprise you - grass - because she can move so well. It is not a criticism to her or the coaches before but when I was with her at Eastbourne (the Wimbledon lead-up tournament) she had no idea how to play grass. There's a path and structure you have to respect on grass. The serve and the things she can do are much better on grass than this kind of surface.'
He added: 'I'm not saying she will win Wimbledon this year but the best match I saw Li do was against (Agnieszka) Radwanska in the quarter-finals at Wimbledon (last year). She went to the net more than 60 times and won 65 per cent of the points when there.'
He continued: 'It is my job to push her to do something she knows how to do, but she is scared to do. It is her humility - that is her. To have a 31-year-old player who has already won a grand slam but is willing to listen, to change things, for a coach that's a gift. I talk to her and then she tries hard to do it. It is wonderful to see.'
