Pete Sampras has tipped Roger Federer to break his record of seven men's singles titles at the Championships, Wimbledon this summer.
Discussing the 17-times grand slam winner, Sampras said: 'Things need to fall into place and he needs to play well but I do think he can do it [win a grand slam]. I think it is what he's playing for.'
He predicted the Swiss legend could go on for up to four more years and praised Federer's passion for the sport and willingness to keep going, in contrast with his own retirement at the age of 31.
Fans enjoying hospitality packages at the Championships, Wimbledon may be fascinated by the prospect of a two-pronged Swiss assault on the title, with Stanislas Wawrinka following his strong showing in 2013 by winning the Australian Open title last month.
Federer's 17th grand slam and seventh Wimbledon title came at the expense of Andy Murray in 2012, but he crashed out in the second round to little known Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky last year.
