Recently crowned Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova's run in the Rogers Cup came to an end as she knock out of the Premier 5 event by young Russian Ekaterina Makarova on Thursday.
World No.19 Ekaterina Makarova scored a big upset at Unipix Arena on Thursday as she knocked out World No. 4 Petra Kvitova 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 in an all left-handed match. The two time Wimbledon winner started the match on the right note but somehow failed to maintain the same level of play throughout the match. The Russian raised her intensity and whipped some impressive down the line winners to win the last 2 sets and booked her spot in the quarter-finals.
The 2012 Canadian Masters winner Kitova expressed her disappointment twitter: handle@Petra_Kvitova . She tweeted: Sad to say goodbye to Montreal. It's back to work and I'm just glad I have chance to be better in Cincy next week.
