Person killed by train at Wimbledon station

A person has been killed after being struck by a train at Wimbledon Station.


The British Transport Police (BTP) have confirmed the incident happened at about 1pm this afternoon.


The London Ambulance Service were called to the station shortly after 1pm but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.


Police and ambulance are currently at the station.


A spokeswoman for BTP said: 'BTP officers were called to Wimbledon rail station on Wednesday, 6 November after a report that a person had been hit by a train.


'Metropolitan Police officers also attended the incident, which was reported to BTP at 1pm, and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.


'Medics from the London Ambulance Service also attended, but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.


'Officers are currently working to establish the identity of the person and inform their family.


'A file will be prepared for the Coroner.'


All lines have since reopened at Wimbledon but may be subject to delays.
