17-time Grand Slam Champion Roger Federer had a wretched start to the beginning of the season that persisted throughout most of the season. However, the Swiss exhibited glimpse of return in the season-ending tournaments, which propelled former Australian ace Mark Philippoussis to come out in support of Federer.

'I think he has one more slam left in him but it will have to come next year or that will be it,' said Philippoussis, who became the first man to face Federer in a major event, when the two met in the finals of 2003 Wimbledon Championships.

'I'm throwing it out there,' he continued. 'It's a big call but I believe he can do it. Pete Sampras' last match was to beat Andre Agassi in the US Open final when everyone thought he was finished.

'I think Roger can either win in Australia or at Wimbledon next year. The fact that (Andy) Murray's fitness is a question mark is a factor and that improves Roger's chances as he lost to him in Australia last year.'

Philippoussis is a two-time Grand Slam finalist, with 11 ATP singles titles, and 3 doubles titles in his kitty.
