Tennis - Before Andy Murray came along, Tim Henman had been the most successful British player in years. Henman peaked at no. 4 in the world and although he never reached the finals at SW 19, he did make the semi-finals on multiple occasions. So he surely knows a thing or two about what it takes to win at Wimbledon and the pressure that British players have to face in their quest for glory at SW19.
Murray has yet to return to winning form since undergoing back surgery in September but Heman says he likes the Scot's chances to win another Wimbledon title - especially since he has already done it once.
'If he's 100 percent healthy and he's got matches under his belt he's got as good a chance as anyone. I think the surface is the most important aspect. It complements his game so well. It's very difficult to write off, I would say, in order, (Novak) Djokovic and (Rafa) Nadal, given their stature in the game and the way they've been playing. There has to be(less pressure on Andy). He's won the tournament, that can never be taken away from him. I think it's really important that that he goes out and revels in the whole environment and enjoys the whole process of being the defending champion. We've seen it for so many years, the defending champion coming out on the first Monday and opening Centre Court, what an honour and a privilege and thoroughly well-deserved. People say, 'oh, the pressure of defending his title'. I think the hard work's done.'
Henman also said that he would not write off Roger Federer on the grass courts and that the Swiss' best chance to win an 18th slam would be at the All England Club.
'I definitely wouldn't write off (Roger) Federer at Wimbledon. If he's gong to win another grand slam, which I think he can, Wimbledon's definitely the best chance because he's the most offensive of those players and grass is the toughest surface to defend on. It's brilliant what (Stan) Wawrinka did in Australia; it's huge for him but it's a great psychological blow for the other group outside of those four but I don't see that happening at Wimbledon. I think there are many good hard court players, I think there are even more good clay-court players, but I don't see a 'surprise' on grass.'
