Swift Keith: impressed at Wimbledon on Juvenile/Springbok night
SWIFT KEITH is to miss the Ladbrokes Scottish Derby and will instead be prepared with the William Hill Derby as his sole target, after trainer John Mullins had a change of heart about a Shawfield bid.
The Feb 12 son of Vans Escalade and Swift Sandy was hugely impressive on the Juvenile/Springbok final card at Wimbledon at the turn of the month, posting the fastest time of the year so far when winning in 28.22 for the 480m at Plough Lane, after which Mullins suggested a trip to Scotland was likely.However, the Suffolk handler yesterday revealed Wimbledon was now uppermost in his thoughts.'Until last week I was probably still going,' he said, 'but I had a serious think about things over the weekend and probably seeing the trials and races at Shawfield, and the times they are clocking has changed my mind. It's a tough 480m to get there, and I want to give him every chance at Wimbledon.'I'm not sure if he'll race anywhere else before the Derby. We might think about trials and trial stakes only at Wimbledon, but it's best that punters know what our plans are,' added Mullins.See Tuesday's Racing Post for more news
