Rusedski doubts Murray Wimbledon defence

Former British number one Greg Rusedski feels Andy Murray's split from Ivan Lendl could be 'a blow' to his Wimbledon defence hopes.

The 26-year-old Scot confirmed on Wednesday that he had amicably parted company with the Czech eight-time Grand Slam champion who he enjoyed a successful two years working alongside since linking up in 2012. Under Lendl's guidance Murray won an Olympic gold medal at the London Games, ended his Grand Slam wait at the 2012 US Open and then became the first British male to win Wimbledon since 1936 last summer. However, since Murray underwent surgery to repair a back problem last September, his game has struggled and he has subsequently failed to win a tournament so far this year. A fourth-round exit at last week's event at Indian Wells was their last together and Rusedksi feels Murray has taken a huge risk as he doubts any successor will get him prepared to defend his Wimbledon crown like Lendl would have. 'Andy is a fantastic player and should have many more years in the top 10 to come,' he wrote in the Daily Telegraph. 'But Ivan's departure is a blow. There are very few coaches who can add another dimension in the way that he has done. 'Without him, it will be that bit harder for Andy to lift his momentum and intensity in the build-up to his Wimbledon title defence.'
