Tennis: Former world no.10 from Italy, Flavia Pennetta has disclosed that she was considering taking retirement after the Wimbledon last year as she was going through a poor form.
After being a world top 10 player in 2009, Pennetta underwent a surgery after 2012 US Open in August and could not make a significant progress after coming back.
She reached the Pre-Quarterfinal at Wimbledon and then reached the semifinal at US Open. She has now reached the Quarterfinal at Indian Wells tournament.
'At Wimbledon I was thinking, 'Okay, I'll play until New York, and then we will see how the ranking is'. If I'm not where I want to be (I'll stop).
'After Wimbledon I started to feel a little bit better, and since then everything is coming out.
'I think it was because I was working, I didn't stop. When everything is going in the wrong way, you think, 'Okay, I don't want to practise, I don't want to do this or do that.
'But if you still do it, there is one point, you don't know why, it just happens.'
She also mentioned the fact that Italian are doing pretty well at the moment.
Pennetta said: 'It's perfect for Italy. In woman's and men's we have so many players. We have a great result almost every week.
'The Italian women are already really consistent for a long time. The men are just starting now with Fabio, because he's crazy, but it's unbelievable the way he plays.
'The Italian people can enjoy a lot with us.'
