City ace past Wimbledon

York City moved within four points of the play-offs with a third successive away win at AFC Wimbledon. Michael Coulson was on target for the second consecutive game as the visitors earned a first-ever Football League triumph at the Dons. But the Minstermen should have won by a much greater margin with Ryan Bowman missing an open goal from four-yards shortly after strong claims for a penalty for handball on the line. However, Coulson had already given the determined visitors an interval lead with a 41st minute header from Lanre Oyebanjo's inviting cross.Leading scorer Wes Fletcher was recalled to the bench in an unchanged starting eleven as York manager Nigel Worthington returned to the scene of his first game in charge twelve months ago. But it was Coulson who saw an early attempt wide before Danny Hylton's reply was blocked after Fulham loanee Tom Richards broke down the left. The Minstermen went close on ten minutes with Will Hayhurst's cross being met by Bowman's glancing header wide of the far post. Dons' Luke Moore soon had a deflected effort for a corner and Hylton in turn headed wide.It was remaining fairly even as a short corner witnessed Coulson's shot blocked while Hylton struck dangerously across goal for the home side. Back came their opponents with Coulson firing over and immediately claiming a helping touch from goalkeeper Ross Worner. Those two were again involved when York went in front after Bowman was fouled just before the break, Oyebanjo delivering a fine cross and Coulson heading low past Worner for his third goal of the season. York also threatened immediately following the interval with Michael Collins instantly booked for a trip on Russell Penn and John McCombe hooking towards keeper Worner after Bowman headed on the free-kick. Six minutes later Josh Carson struck inches wide of the far post before Coulson hoisted over from distance.Wimbledon responded with a triple-substitution on the hour but then appeared to escape penalty claims when Chris Arthur seemed to handle on the line as both Coulson and Carson were denied in rapid successionMoments later the visitors only had themselves to blame when Dons keeper Worner slipped when trying to clear in the corner and Coulson supplied Bowman to inexplicably scuff wide of an open goal.Coulson sent another opportunity wide following good work between Bowman and Hayhurst while substitute Fletcher also drilled over, although Wimbledon enjoyed lots of late possession without ever causing too much trouble for a sturdy defensive unit.AFC Wimbledon: Worner, Fuller, Richards (Arthur 61), Antwi, Jones, Morris, S.
