A chess enthusiast has been recognised for 80 years service to the game.
Trevor Brugger of Wimbledon chess club scooped this year's English Chess Federation President's award after eight decades plays and 40 years as club secretary.
The club, which plays on Mondays in Trinity Road, has helped organise a record 13 teams to compete successfully against the strongest clubs in England.
In 2013 Wimbledon won Surrey's top knock-out cup after beating national champions Guildford, while its first team were runners-up in the Thames Valley premiere league.
Trevor Brugger said he was 'Surprised, delighted and flattered to receive such a prestigious award,' which he shares with Surbiton 's Mike Basman, organiser of the world's biggest chess event, the UK Chess Challenge for 100,000 children.
