The Wimbledon Guild officially launched its new programme of activities and café on Tuesday as part of its 'Ageing Well' initiative.

The new programme is designed to help older people live independently for as long as possible with classes ranging from cream teas and Zumba to mobile phone workshops Tai Chi.

The Guild café is now open Monday to Friday with a transport service available for those unable to make the journey alone.

As part of the programme volunteers will also be visiting elderly people in their homes to reduce isolation.

Wendy Pridmore, chief executive, said: 'We have successfully integrated the Merton Ageing Well initiative into our programme, which has been put together with the evolving needs of the community in mind.

'A huge amount of hard work and good will has gone into making it happen and The Wimbledon Guild staff and volunteers are dedicated to delivering an engaging and varied social experience for all.'
