Wimbledon champ's mum gives advice to youngsters in Carlisle

Carlisle's tennis stars of the future have been getting first class coaching from the mother of the Olympic and Wimbledon champion.



As well as Judy Murray, the mother of the UK's number one tennis player Andy, Alistair Higham, who grew up in Wigton, was on hand to offer an insider's angle on life at the top of the modern game.


They held a coaching clinic at Chatsworth Tennis Club, in St Aidan's Road, Carlisle, over the weekend as well as a talk for tennis players and enthusiasts on Sunday at the Rheged Discovery Centre near Penrith. A spokeswoman for the visit organisers: said: 'Judy, now famous worldwide alongside her Wimbledon and Olympic Champion son Andy, has had a long and distinguished career in tennis.


'She is a world-class coach in her own right, spending many years at the top level of the Lawn Tennis Association. She currently captains Great Britain's Federation Cup women's team.


'Alistair is an international expert on matchplay and momentum in sport, advising professional athletes and clubs all over the world.


'He is the author of two best-selling books and his work is showcased in sports exhibitions.'
