A car crashed into the window of a Starbucks in front of horrified commuters after colliding with a van in Wimbledon this morning.

Amazingly, no one was seriously hurt in the dramatic crash just before 9am when a silver Vauxhall Corsa rammed the cafe near Wimbledon station in Wimbledon Hill Road.

A spokesman at Wimbledon fire station said: 'There's an on-going investigation with the police. That car was hit by a van and went into Starbucks.'

He said one person was taken to hospital with minor cuts and a couple of other people suffered shock.

He said: 'We were just making the scene safe and making sure everyone was ok.'

A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman confirmed one patient was taken to St George's Hospital in Tooting with minor injuries and two patients declined aid.

She said: 'We sent a responder car, three ambulance crews and a duty officer.'

A London Fire Brigade spokesman said a fire engine and heavy rescue, from Wimbledon, and a fire engine, from New Malden, were called to the crash.

He said: 'It was one car and one van in collision. The car was left in situ in the front of the shop awaiting police investigations.'

The crash created a stir on social media site Twitter as commuters expressed their surprise and posted photos of the crash.

Lord Tariq Ahmad posted: 'Shocked to see a car has driven straight into Starbucks in #Wimbledon - hope and pray no serious injuries.'

Gemma Smith Tweeted: 'Witnessed a car crash into #Starbucks window in #Wimbledon! I'm shocked no one was hurt. Makes you realise how quick life could change!'

Stuart Hill said: 'Crazy scenes on way to work...car crashed into Starbucks in Wimbledon...'

Claire Petzal said: 'Car completely mangled and smashed into the front window of Starbucks #Wimbledon ! How the hell did that happen?! hope everyone's ok #crash.'

Others took a more light-hearted approach.

Sam Stewart posted: 'Pretty sure Starbucks in Wimbledon isn't a drive through.'

Calum McSwiggan ‏said: 'Car gone straight through the window at the Wimbledon Starbucks. Somebody really needed their frappucino this morning.'
