Wimbledon 2014 set for battle

It took 77 years for a British man to win Wimbledon, but how Andy Murray defends his title in 2014 will be just as gripping.

Wimbledon 2013 was one of epic proportions, with early upsets for Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal paving the way for Andy Murray to emulate what Fred Perry last achieved in 1936 and enter the annals of British sporting history Enter he did, as Murray dispatched a number of tough foes on his way to his second Grand Slam victory. Fernando Verdasco, the relatively unknown but dangerous Jerzy Janowicz and eventual finalist Novak Djokovic were just three of the players to experience a Murray on a mission. The same players will be back at SW19 this summer, with the tournament beginning on June 23. The Men's tournament will again be volatile as usual, with the same old guard of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic out to win back the crown from Murray. However, the likes of Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, David Ferrer will be hopeful that they can emulate Stanislas Wawrinka's recent achievements and break the stranglehold of the 'Big Four' on the Grand Slams. Murray and Djokovic are currently co-favourites on the betting website sportsinteraction.com, with the two players priced at 52/25. Elsewhere down the betting sits the perennial achievers of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal but Wimbledon has not been a happy hunting ground for both players in recent years. With Federer and Nadal perhaps experiencing a gradual decline from their peak, perhaps 2014 is no better time for the likes of Australian Open champion Wawrinka and co. to gain Wimbledon victory. Ladies in session The Ladies' draw is a little more complex than the Men's but as usual the titanic figurehead of women's tennis, Serena Williams, will take all the beating in London. Williams will face strong competition in England but one player who won't be there is the 2013 champion Marion Bartoli. The Frenchwoman retired from professional tennis not long after winning her first and only Grand Slam at the relatively young age of 28. With Bartoli not returning to SW19 to defend her crown makes Serena Williams a hot favourite to secure her eighth Wimbledon title. For all your Wimbledon action, sports interaction offers mobile app for tennis betting and at this early stage they have Williams as 59/50 favourite, with last year's finalist Sabine Lisicki at 21/1. The German had a fantastic 2013 in London and no doubt she will be hoping that a natural progression can see her challenge Williams all the way.
