Get your game set for Wimbledon in free match fun days

NORMALLY tennis racquets are pulled out of cupboards and dusted off after two hard weeks of cheering on Andy Murray at Wimbledon.

This year, though, people in the Frome area have a chance to enjoy playing tennis before the world's biggest grass court tournament even starts.

Frome Selwood Tennis Club, in conjunction with the Lawn Tennis Association, is holding two free Great British Tennis Weekend fun days at their courts just off Somerset Road, next to the Mary Baily Playing Fields.

The fun days are on Sunday, May 18, and Sunday, June 22. Activities on the day are open to all ages and all levels of player, from beginner upwards, and will include cardio tennis, mini tennis, fastest serve competition, free play and tennis xpress.

Club chairman John Price said: 'Whether you just want to find out about the club, explore whether you might like to play tennis or rediscover the enjoyment of this sport, please do come along.

'You can either come to the club and register on the day or book in advance online via http://ift.tt/1ot2XXK. com. And if you don't have a tennis racquet, don't worry, we will have some club racquets available on the day.'

Frome Selwood Tennis Club is also offering, in conjunction with Sport England's 'Sportivate' initiative, a free six-week tennis course for young adults aged 17 to 25.

Two courses will be held, the first is running from Sunday, May 25, to Sunday, June 29, from 5pm to 6pm and the second from Sunday, July 13, to Sunday, August 17, also from 5pm to 6pm.

If you are over 25 you can also take part at a cost of £30 for the full six weeks.

For more information visit the Frome Selwood Tennis Club website www.frometennis. net or call head coach Phil Lawton on 07712 267620 or email phil1 5007@yahoo. co.uk.

Frome Selwood Tennis Club is a community oriented tennis club with about 120 adult members and more than 100 juniors. It has three artificial grass courts, playable in all but the most extreme weather conditions.

The club boasts an active tennis and social programme, including team competition in local leagues, monthly social tournaments and various events such as quizzes, dances and skittles. Coaching is available for both juniors and adults.
