Murray's Wimbledon triumph tops Facebook chat

London (AFP) - Andy Murray's win at Wimbledon, ending Britain's 77-year wait for a men's singles champion, was the moment that sparked the most Facebook chat in 2013, the internet giant revealed on Monday.

The Scot's victory on July 7 was more talked about than the death of Margaret Thatcher, football’s Champions League Final and the birth of Prince George.

Globally, the election of Pope Francis in May was the most commented on event, although the death of Nelson Mandela had around 55 million people taking to the social networking site by the end of day Friday.

London's O2 arena in Greenwich was the place most frequently checked out by the country's Facebook users.

The country's top ten talked about events in 2013:

1 - Andy Murray wins Wimbledon Championships

2 - Margaret Thatcher dies

3 - UEFA Champions League Final

4 - The birth of Prince George

5 - Sir Alex Ferguson retires as manager of Manchester United
