Andy Murray kicked off what is sure to be a busy awards season by winning the Sports Journalists' Association sportsman of the year award.
The world No4 beat Novak Djokovic to end Britain's 77-year wait for a male singles champion at Wimbledon this summer.
Murray, who is hot favourite to be named BBC Sports Personality of the Year, won the sportsman of the year gong at the SJA awards dinner in central London on Thursday afternoon.
Murray was not at the ceremony, but he gave his thanks in a pre-recorded address, saying: 'It has been an unbelievable year. Winning Wimbledon was the highlight. I've been working towards that for a long time.'
The world 400 metre champion Christine Ohuruogu won sportswoman of the year. The 29-year-old's Moscow success was her second world crown and followed on from her silver at London 2012. She also took bronze in the 4x400m relay, taking her career tally of world medals to five.
