Tennis: The 2013 Wimbledon semifinalist Jerzy Janowicz had a narrow escape in the first round of the Moselle Open in Metz as he lost the first set before winning a thrilling encounter against Adrian Mannarino.
The seventh seed, Janowicz was the only seeded player in action on Tuesday and the 6-foot-8 Pole did not have a good start to the match as he was broken twice and was not able to convert any of the 4 break points he had in the first set.
After losing the first set, Janowicz was in more control on his service games and did not face a break point in the second set. The French player did the same was set went into a tie-break. He won the tie-break 7-5 to make it one set all and a single break of serve was enough to give the third set 6-4 and a place in the second round.
Janowicz served 11 aces in the match in reply to Mannarino's 14, but the Pole also served 3 double faults. Another Pole who booked his place in the next round was Michal Przysiezny, who defeated another French player Pierre-Hugues Herbert 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(4).
Italy's Paolo Lorenzi defeated the French wildcard Laurent Lokoli in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 whereas the French qualifier Kenny De Schepper was beaten by Tobias Kamke 6-3, 7-6.
