WIMBLEDON - It is a long way yet from being Isner-Mahut II, but another American and another Frenchman - Sam Querrey and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga - are hooked up in a tennis marathon that was suspended because of darkness at 9-9 in the fifth set Wednesday night.

Four years ago, John Isner and Nicholas Mahut played the longest match in tennis annals here, Isner finally prevailing, 70-68, after three days and more than 11 hours.

Querrey, 26, and No. 14 Tsonga, 29, pounded each other with aces and jackhammer forehands for three hours and 21 minutes, before play was halted with the score 6-4, 6-7(2), 7-6 (4), 3-6, 9-9.

Unlike the U.S. Open, Wimbledon doesn't use a tiebreaker in the final set.

The chair umpire first announced that play had been suspended at 9:15 after Tsonga held for 8-8,but the players protested and so did the fans, so it went two more games and eight more minutes.

Tsonga has 34 aces, Querrey 30. Each player has been broken on time in the match.
